The Boston Licensing Board today approved plans for a Taco Bell in Brighton Center and an El Jefe's Taqueria in Kenmore Square to serve their crunchy comestibles until 3 a.m. - with the Taco Bell allowed to stay open until 3:30 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

The Taco Bell Cantina will replace a never opened Enterprise car-rental garage at Washington and Cambridge streets, across from both the Boston Medical Center formerly known as St. Elizabeth's and the D-14 police station.

At a hearing yesterday, the chain's attorney, Tom Miller, pointed to the hunger needs of overnight workers at the two facilities. Although the Cantina will feature an expanded menu, with even vegetarian options, unlike other Cantina locations, it will have no seats. Miller noted the space has a six-space parking lot
