POTSDAM, New York (WWNY) - Clarkson University’s Army ROTC program just got a major lifeline, and it’s not going anywhere.

After plans surfaced to shut down the Golden Knight Battalion, U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer stepped in, pushing back hard.

Now, the Army’s reversed course. That means dozens of North Country cadets can stay on track to become officers without leaving their school.

The program is known for producing top-tier STEM and medical leaders for the Army, and it’s the only one of its kind in the region.

Schumer called it a major win for local students and national security.
