Arsenal star Kai Havertz will require knee surgery and is therefore set for an extended spell on the sidelines , talkSPORT understands.
The German sustained the injury during the opening day win at Manchester United after entering the match as a second-half substitute.
Havertz was missing from the matchday squad for last weekend’s 5-0 win over Leeds sparking fears that his injury was worse than first feared.
Arsenal conducted tests to explore the extent of the injury this week but now those fears have now been realised.
Havertz will now miss Arsenal’s crunch Premier League clash at Liverpool on Sunday and Germany’s World Cup qualifiers against Slovakia and Northern Ireland next month.
The 26-year-old’s fresh setback caps off a torrid year on the injury front.
