South Congaree Police Chief Steve Jonas was involved in a two-car collision that occurred on Wednesday evening in Columbia. Both Chief Jonas and the occupants of the other vehicle were transported to a local hospital for medical evaluations following the accident.

No information is currently available regarding the condition of Chief Jonas or the occupants in the other vehicle.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. As a result of the incident Chief Jonas has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard protocol for an ongoing investigation.
