To hear Sweet Honey in the Rock onstage is to experience the power and beauty of the human voice. Since forming back in 1973, Sweet Honey has been fueled by soaring a cappella vocals of a group of African American women who mix gospel, blues, spoken word and soul to make a joyful noise.

But it’s not just about the voices; it’s about the messages those voices deliver. Sweet Honey in the Rock, which will perform at Greenville’s Peace Center on Sept. 14, has always been a group that is socially aware and politically conscious.
