PIERRE, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The South Dakota Highway Patrol announced that sobriety checkpoints will be conducted in 15 counties throughout the month of September.

The counties that will have sobriety checkpoints include:

Bennett

Brookings

Charles Mix

Clay

Codington

Hutchinson

Jackson

Jerauld

Lincoln

Meade

Minnehaha

Pennington

Roberts

Spink

Walworth

The checkpoints are funded by the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety and conducted by the South Dakota Highway Patrol with the help of local law enforcement.

Sobriety checkpoints aim to discourage drinking and driving.
