SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) -- The Chatham County Police Department (CCPD) is warning the public about a fake document scam that appears to be targeting the undocumented immigrant community.
During several recent traffic stops, CCPD patrol officers have seen fake documentation labeled as an International Driver’s License.
The fraudulent documents say the issuing agencies are USAID and the USAIDP Auto Club.
CCPD believes people are paying as much as $1,000 for the documents, which carry no legal authority. By carrying these documents and presenting them as legitimate identification, a person can face a potential felony forgery charge -- which could result in an arrest.
