Alberta is boosting support for livestock producers by raising the limit on the Feeders Associations Loan Guarantee Program (FALGP) to $225 million.
In an Aug. 27 release, Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation RJ Sigurdson announced the limit is being raised from $150 million, continuing the program’s role in providing low-interest financing.
The release notes that FALGP finances anywhere between 17 and 24 per cent of each year's calf crop.
"Alberta is a beef province, and livestock is a huge part of our agricultural industry," said Sigurdson. "Our cattle and sheep producers put food on tables in our province and around the world.
