Junior quarterback Kanon Gibson is back in the Permian Basin, wearing a jersey that’s orange and black.

Only this time, he’s playing for UTPB.

The former Wink standout is ready to make his debut with the Falcons in this weekend’s season opener after transferring from West Texas A&M during the offseason.

“It just feels like I’m back home,” Gibson said. “It feels right to be here. I’m just excited to get out there with my teammates, go out there and show what we can do right now.”

UTPB will face No. 5-Central Oklahoma at noon Saturday at Astound Broadband Stadium.

The Falcons’ quarterback battle was one of the main story lines for the Falcons heading into this season.

UTPB also had Isaac Mooring and Christian Kaopua battling for the quarterback position during this offseason.
