On each of the last two occasions that the Golden Hurricane head-coaching job was open, I suggested that University of Tulsa officials would be wise to consider Loren Montgomery and to learn why this man’s teams are so ferocious, so beautifully on point with their execution and such cold-blooded winners.

There were skeptics who would call or email to say, “Come on, man – a major-college program doesn’t hire a high school coach.”

To which I would reply, “Have you actually seen a Bixby game over the last seven years?”

I’m not always right, but I’m right about this: If Montgomery were to take the same football IQ and same principles to major-college football, he would be successful.
