WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - People getting checks from the federal government, including social security and veterans benefits, will soon see a change in how they get their money.

At the end of September, the government will no longer issue or accept paper checks for payments.

The United Way of the Plains states that it will not significantly impact a large part of the population, but it could affect vulnerable individuals.

"For some folks, often the most vulnerable in our community, they are currently receiving paper checks for a whole multitude of reasons. This could potentially cause hiccups in their accessing the funds that they use to pay to live day in and day out," said Sarah Crick Milligan, director of community impact.
