TUSCUMBIA, Ala. — UPDATE: Tuscumbia City Schools Superintendent Russ Tate on Wednesday sent an email to members of the Deshler High School community amid an uproar that follows an incident that left a freshman student severely injured.

Tate's message restates certain positions already explained by the school system, which has cited federal privacy laws as a reason for limited communication about the matter. It also confirms certain known details that have been reported by FOX54.

The stepfather of the 15-year-old who sustained skull and orbital bone fractures said the family is aware of the email, which he called "disheartening."
