Mark Teixeira, a former Major League Baseball All-Star, is running for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. He aims to represent Texas’ 21st Congressional District, which includes parts of San Antonio. Teixeira, a World Series champion with the New York Yankees, made his announcement on Thursday morning.

In his campaign launch, Teixeira stated, "I'm ready to go. As a lifelong conservative who loves this country, I'm running for Congress to fight for the principles that make Texas and America great." He emphasized the importance of teamwork, expressing his commitment to support President Trump’s America First agenda, Texas families, and individual liberty.

Teixeira began his 14-year MLB career with the Texas Rangers before playing for the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Angels, and Yankees. Throughout his career, he earned five Gold Glove awards and three Silver Slugger awards at first base.

After retiring from baseball, Teixeira and his wife, Leigh, returned to Texas to raise their children and pursue new business ventures. They have also been active in charitable efforts, focusing on education and Christian ministries. Since moving back in 2021, Teixeira has supported conservative causes, including backing Governor Greg Abbott and volunteering with the Texas Public Policy Foundation.

Teixeira is entering the race for Congressional District 21 following the announcement that incumbent Rep. Chip Roy will run for Texas Attorney General. The district, under a new congressional map expected to be signed into law by Governor Abbott, primarily covers the Hill Country, including Kerr, Real, Bandera, Gillespie, Kendall, and Blanco counties, as well as parts of Hays, Comal, and Bexar counties. Teixeira resides in Dripping Springs.

In his campaign announcement, Teixeira highlighted the spirit of Texas, saying, "Texas is the land of fierce independence, relentless optimism, and limitless opportunity. That unique spirit thrives in the Hill Country and throughout Congressional District 21 — from Kerrville to New Braunfels, from Leakey to Bandera, and everywhere in between."

Teixeira's platform includes several conservative priorities, such as securing the border, growing the economy, opposing radical woke indoctrination, promoting American energy independence, defending life and the Second Amendment, ending perpetual wars, and strengthening the military.
