BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A ribbon-cutting ceremony for a unique gallery to honor and remember the American soldiers, still listed as missing in action was held in downtown Bakersfield.
The non-profit, "Missing in Action Remembered" is opening a memorial gallery at the "Portrait of a Warrior Gallery" in downtown Bakersfield.
The memorial will display more than 82 thousand dog tags, as a solemn tribute to the American soldiers who are still missing from World War II.
"Not only is it an amazing sight, but it is indicative of their fate," Fern Sumpter Winbush, Principal Deputy Director, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency. "What happened to them? They never made it home because their dog tags are displayed here."
