Daily commutes for drivers in Kingston’s west end have taken longer than usual due to the temporary closure of Bath Road.
From Tuesday until Saturday Aug. 31, a portion of the road has been closed to allow CN Rail to complete repairs to the track.
Closing that particular artery, which connects the west end to the city’s downtown, has resulted in some challenges for drivers, including taxi operator Kevin Murphy.
He has been in the taxi business for over 35 years and said while his business isn’t impacted, it’s his clients who pay the price.
“What we don’t want is a customer to have to pay an extra $15 to get home,” said Murphy, who described one scenario that took him about 45 minutes to get from Kingston General Hospital to a home just behind the Frontenac Mall.
