On the night of August 7, one of the longest-serving members of the current AC Transit Board of Directors, H.E. Christian Peeples, died in his sleep at his home at the age of 78. The loss saddened friends, colleagues, and transit advocates who had worked with him throughout his 28-year tenure on the board.

Beyond his longtime role on AC Transit’s board, Peeples served on the Oakland Ethics Commission, the Transportation Research Board, a research arm of the National Academy of Sciences, and a state planning committee of the American Public Transportation Association.

AC Transit Board and staff have now embarked on a process to replace him on the board.
