Bring historical artifacts to where people are — don’t leave them where people aren’t going.

That was the mindset of the majority of Niagara Falls’ city councillors who approved closing Willoughby Historical Museum when its lease with Niagara Parks ends in late 2027.

The museum’s collection will move to other sites while staff evaluate its entire collection that showcased the rural historical township that was incorporated into the city in 1970.

“We want to build some interactive displays that will be in the new (Chippawa-Willoughby) arena, for example, that would be at Gale Centre or where other people are,” chief administrative officer Jason Burgess said after Tuesday’s council meeting.
