FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The U.S. Coast Guard on Monday announced that it has unloaded a record haul of illegal drugs in Florida, including enough cocaine the military branch said has the potential to kill the state's entire population.

According to the Coast Guard, the drugs seized are valued at $473 million and included 61,740 pounds of cocaine and 14,400 pounds of marijuana.

The Coast Guard said the amount of cocaine seized could supply fatal overdoses to 23 million people, which is roughly the population of Florida.

The Coast Guard said the drugs came from 19 different interdictions done in the Eastern Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea between June 26 and Aug. 18. Officials touted the operation as "the largest quantity of drugs offloaded in Coast Guard history."
