NORFOLK, Va. — A new era of Norfolk State football began Thursday night with Michael Vick making his debut as head coach, but the season opener didn’t go the Spartans’ way. In front of 19,469 fans at William “Dick” Price Stadium, NSU fell 27-7 to Towson.
Senior quarterback Otto Kuhns led the Spartans’ offense, finishing 19-of-27 for 219 yards. Wideouts DreSean Kendrick and Kam’Ryn Thomas both topped the century mark, with Kendrick hauling in 11 catches for 125 yards and Thomas adding seven receptions for 105.
Defensively, Major Dilliard paced NSU with eight tackles, while Daylan Long and Khalib Gilmore added seven each. Ty Jones forced a fumble that Kahleef Jimmison recovered, accounting for the Spartans’ lone takeaway of the night.
