SOUTH BEND, Ind. — A South Bend man has been charged after police say he was armed with a knife and making threats Tuesday evening at a public park in northern Indiana.

According to the South Bend Police Department , around 8:15 p.m. on Aug. 26, officers were called to Howard Park in downtown South Bend on a report that an armed male was running around the park threatening to stab people with a knife.

When officers arrived, they found 43-year-old Derrick V. Myers in possession of a steak knife. Officers immediately detained and disarmed Myers.

Witnesses reportedly told police that Myers was following some people and saying, "I'm gonna stab you, I'm gonna kill you."

Additionally, witnesses said they shouted at other park visitors to warn them of Myers and told them to run away.
