OXFORD, Miss. — A Tunica County man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for illegally possessing ammunition in connection to a deadly 2023 shooting, U.S. Attorney Clay Joyner announced Thursday.
U.S. District Judge Michael P. Mills handed down the maximum sentence to 44-year-old Korea McKay, calling the case "the most outrageous one he's seen in 25 years," according to court records.
Investigators say McKay shot and killed Davao Thomas on February 18, 2023, in the Kirby Estates apartment complex after Thomas told him to slow down. Two shell casings were recovered from the scene, and McKay left the scene in his truck.
His truck was later found hidden behind a trailer in Dundee, Mississippi.
