Fresno police say they arrested a man accused of posing as a law enforcement officer in a scheme that demanded $30,000 in cash from a resident.
The Fresno Police Department’s Financial Crimes Unit, working with the FBI’s Financial Crimes Task Force in Fresno, said Dehua Zou, 32, was taken into custody on Friday, Aug. 22.
Zou allegedly contacted the victim by text message, claiming their credit cards had been used to buy illicit materials online.
The suspects told the victim they could avoid arrest by paying $30,000 in cash.
Zou was booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of theft by false pretenses, police said Thursday.
