The state’s transportation agency is warning that, as per usual, traffic will be particularly bad on Bay State roads over the coming days as people take in the last holiday weekend of the summer.

The worst traffic will actually come after the holiday weekend on Tuesday, according to MassDOT’s review of traffic data, when drivers should be prepared for delays “throughout the day and extending later into the evening.”

Road congestion is expected to peak midday and remain clogged through the afternoon on both Friday and Saturday, and MassDOT is advising people to “avoid” travel during those hours.

Sunday will see heavier traffic throughout the day. Monday, when the federal Labor Day holiday is observed, will see “heavier traffic volume” during the midday and afternoon stretches.
