BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- The game between G.W. Carver High School and Pleasant Grove has been cancelled, Carver announced Thursday.

The Rams and Spartans were scheduled to play Thursday night at Carver Stadium. According to a Facebook post from Carver, the game was cancelled due to "matters beyond our control."

The following statement was released by the Rams Thursday:

"Due to matters beyond our control, tonight’s football game at Carver will not be held. The safety of our scholars, families, and community is always our top priority, and as we cannot ensure that protection, the game must be cancelled. We appreciate your understanding and continued support of our scholar-athletes."

Pleasant Grove is scheduled to face Fairfield on Sept. 5., and Carver will travel to John Carroll Cathol
