WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Drivers heading out for Labor Day weekend will find some relief at the pump. Gas prices are lower than they were a year ago.
In Kansas, the statewide average for unleaded is $2.87 per gallon. Wichita drivers are paying slightly more, with an average of $2.90, still a break compared to last summer.
AAA estimates that 90% of holiday travelers will be hitting the road, making the dip in prices welcome news.
Analysts say prices have remained lower throughout most of 2025, thanks to steady, relatively low crude oil prices, which account for 50–60% of what drivers pay at the pump.
Here’s what drivers can expect in nearby destinations:
Kansas City: $2.91
Oklahoma City: $2.77
Tulsa: $2.80
