KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- People who live and work in Kansas City, Kansas' Strawberry Hill neighborhood and beyond are encouraged to display a blue ribbon outside of their homes and businesses.

The action is to show support for KCKPD Officer Hunter Simoncic, his family and his KCK law enforcement colleagues.

Thursday, several mostly residential streets in the Strawberry Hill neighborhood were lined with them, as dozens were tied around light and utility poles.

“It is a small gesture, but a very powerful and unifying one,” the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department shared online.

The Strawberry Hill Neighborhood Association President, Rose Eilts, says it's to let law enforcement members know the community cares about them.

“We did it, unfortunately, a month ago too,” Elits said.
