The Kaibab National Forest announced it has reopened the Bill Williams Mountain watershed area for public use after being under Stage 3 fire restrictions since June 18.

Shifting down to Stage 2 fire restrictions, the area is now in the same stage as the rest of the Kaibab National Forest. The Stage 2 restrictions will continue on all three ranger districts -- North Kaibab, Tusayan and Williams -- through at least Labor Day weekend. Though recent precipitation has improved the fuel conditions on Bill Williams Mountain, the area is yet to receive enough rain to significantly reduce the risk of a severe fire, an announcement said.
