TEXAS (WPIX) – A former MLB player and World Series champion has thrown his hat in the ring for a congressional seat in Texas.
Mark Teixeira, who played 14 seasons in the major league for teams including the Texas Rangers and the New York Yankees, announced his campaign for Texas' 21st District on social media, describing himself as a "lifelong conservative" ready to "help defend President Trump's America First agenda."
"I’m ready to go! As a lifelong conservative who loves this country, I’m running for Congress to fight for the principles that make Texas and America great," Teixeira, originally from Maryland, said in a press release.
The congressional campaign comes on the back of Congressman Chip Roy recently announcing his sights are set on the position of Texas Attorney General.
