ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) -- Starting next year, a mandate will require homes and buildings to be built with electrical power instead of natural gas. On Thursday, in a news conference, Congressman Nick Langworthy, along with local and state officials, voiced their opposition to the banning of natural gas use.

In 2023, the All-Electric Buildings Act was passed as part of the budget, amending it to require new homes and buildings to have only electric appliances. Representative Langworthy expressed consumer choice for people to decide the energy for their homes, on Thursday, Aug. 28. He brought up his Energy Choice Act and said it is "to block states and local governments from banning specific safe and legal forms of natural resources like natural gas and propane in new construction."
