LONG ISLAND, N.Y. (PIX11) — Drivers and boaters alike should be extra careful this Labor Day weekend.

Nassau County Police will be enhancing patrols in search of drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol, the Department and County Executive Bruce Blakeman announced Thursday.

The heightened patrols are intended to keep roadways and drivers safe with high-volume traffic expected ahead of one of the busiest weekends of the year.

The Department also said the Marine Bureau will continue with its boating safety initiative, with a large number of boaters anticipated. Patrols will be monitoring for impaired operators and reckless behavior, according to the Department.

The patrols will utilize a DWI Enforcement grant from New York State's STOP DWI program.
