NEW YORK (WBNG) -- With the holiday weekend quickly approaching, law enforcement agencies want drivers to stay safe and be responsible on the road.
The Labor Day weekend is usually a busy one, with folks squeezing in one last trip as summer comes to an end and back-to-school season begins.
Officials say in the first quarter of 2025, there were 125 DWI charges in Broome County alone, a 38% increase over the same time last year.
Patrols will be increased on the road this year, and officials remind people to have a plan for a ride home if they are planning on drinking.
A DWI can carry a fine of up to $10,000, and Broome County District Attorney Paul Battisti said he’ll make sure impaired drivers pay the price.
