FIRST QUARTER

■ What happened: Lightning struck in a couple of different fashions at Doyt Perry Stadium.

For the second year in a row, BGSU opened the season with a kickoff return for a touchdown as redshirt freshman running back Cameron Pettaway darted 98 yards for a score. It was the first collegiate touch for the Farmington Hills, Mich., native, who did not appear in any games last year.

Pettaway went untouched up the right side of the field after receiving the kickoff from Mac Dumont. It was similar to former BGSU running back Justin Pegues’ 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the Falcons’ season-op
