NEWARK - College savings accounts will be set up for about 3,000 incoming Newark kindergarten students with a $150,000 grant from The Prudential Foundation as part of an effort to expand access to financial security and build a strong “college-going culture” in the city.
Newark school district officials last week announced the launch of Newark Saves, a program meant to create college savings accounts for every kindergarten student this 2025-26 academic year. The goal is to establish college savings accounts for the 3,000 kindergartners by June 30, 2026.
The program – participation is voluntary – will provide Newark families with financial tools and education that will help them save, invest and potentially create financial mobility that could last for future generations.
