A man who lived in the Malahat area has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for convictions related to drug trafficking and firearms.

Jesse Draves was sentenced on Aug. 5 for eight offences – three firearms-related offences and five drug trafficking-related offences – after being arrested in May 2023.

The firearms offences included possession of a loaded, restricted firearm, “namely a Magnum Research Desert Eagle 50AE, semi‑automatic pistol,” possession of a prohibited firearm – which was an automatic rifle – and possession of a prohibited device, which was a “high capacity detachable box cartridge magazine,” according to B.C. Supreme Court Justice Karrie Wolfe’s decision released Thursday.
