COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - South Carolina could lose more than a million dollars in federal funding if it does not comply with a new order from the Trump administration.
The US Department of Health and Human Services sent letters this week to 40 states, including South Carolina, ordering them to remove certain information from federally funded sex education material available through the “Personal Responsibility Education Program,” also known as PREP.
States have two months to comply, and South Carolina officials indicated that wouldn’t be an issue.
PREP is aimed at reducing teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted infection rates, and it is targeted toward specific groups of kids and teens, including those who are homeless, in foster care, and live in areas with high teen birth rates.
