AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - This Labor Day weekend, Americans are gearing up for one last summer escape.

And as people hit the road, law enforcement agencies in Georgia and South Carolina will be looking to keep travelers safe.

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety expects a jump in traffic across the state during the holiday weekend.

There were six fatal collisions in South Carolina during Labor Day weekend in 2024, with three of those involving impaired driving.

Three people a day in South Carolina die because of bad driving behaviors, said David Jones, corporal with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
