BANGOR, Maine — Public health officials in Bangor are expressing concerns after learning that the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) plans to take over the city’s longstanding public health nursing services.

"What that really includes is a lot of wraparound supports for our families, our newborns, and those on the way, whether that's checking in on physical or mental health," Bangor Public Health Director Jennifer Gunderman explained.

In a letter sent to the City of Bangor, the Maine CDC announced it will assume control of the organization’s nursing program by the end of September. The agency states that this move is part of a broader effort to serve patients across the state better and balance regional needs.
