DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Duke football is looking to build off last season's success, and they'll get a chance to continue building their program under Manny Diaz when the 2025 campaign kicks off Thursday night.

For the second season in a row, the Blue Devils are set to host the Elon Phoenix from just down the road in Burlington. The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham.

The two programs have faced off nine times in the past, with Duke winning eight of them and one game ending in a tie. Almost exactly a year ago, the Blue Devils topped the Phoenix 26-3 to start their first season under Diaz.

A big test is up next for Duke as Illinois, the preseason No. 12 in the AP rankings, comes to town. That Week 2 game is scheduled for noon on Sept. 6 in Durham.
