MARCOLA, Ore. - Lightning strikes ignited four fires in the Mohawk Valley on Wednesday, including one that threatened a residence, said McKenzie Valley Rural Fire District officials.

Fire authorities said that a lightning strike on Aug. 27 set a tree and nearby building ablaze, with the flames quickly spreading. Thanks to crews already in the area, the fire was swiftly managed, saving the home.

Strong partnerships with agencies like McKenzie Fire and the Oregon Department of Forestry were crucial in controlling these fires. The increased staffing from the Oregon State Fire Marshal's Summer Staffing Grant also played a key role in community protection.
