SPOKANE, Wash. – Jaskaran Singh, a 31-year-old man from Punjab, India, was sentenced to more than 17 years in federal prison after smuggling nearly $8 million worth of drugs into the United States, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Washington.

Singh was found guilty by a federal jury earlier this year. His arrest on April 29, 2023, revealed significant evidence leading to his conviction.

According to court documents, U.S. Border Patrol officials detected three individuals illegally crossing the U.S.-Canada border near Danville, Washington, around 10 p.m. on April 29. These individuals were carrying backpacks and a suitcase.
