PHOENIX — A man died Thursday after being crushed at a rail yard in El Mirage, according to officials with the El Mirage Police Department.

Officers and fire crews responded to the scene at the BNSF Automotive Distribution Center near Thompson Ranch Road and Grand Avenue, just after 9 a.m.. Initial reports were that a piece of machinery fell on the worker. The contract worker was found trapped under a metal plate weighing more than 1,000 pounds, officials said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. His identity has not been released.
