A 74-year old man who was struck and killed by an Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s SUV while crossing a street in Orange outside of a crosswalk was identified Thursday.
Orange Police Department officers responded around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday to Chapman Avenue and Prospect Street regarding a collision.
The SUV did not have its emergency lights and sirens on when it struck the man, Fox 11 reported.
The sheriff’s vehicle suffered significant damage to its front windshield in the collision, ABC7 reported.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by Orange Fire Department personnel.
He was identified Thursday by the Orange County Sheriff’s Coroner Division as Gregory John Beckmann.
