NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A judge has ordered the release of a New Haven high school student from Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention, according to the Connecticut Students for a Dream advocacy group Thursday.

Esdrás R., a Wilbur Cross High School student, is a recent immigrant and was detained by ICE on July 21. The advocacy group said he spent a month in detention after ICE took him into custody during a raid at a local car wash.

Connecticut Students for a Dream said a federal immigration judge ordered for his release and he is now "one step closer to coming home."

"Esdrás should have started his junior year in a classroom — not a courtroom. After more than a month in ICE custody following a workplace raid, he’s shown incredible strength and resilience," the advocacy group said.
