LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A report from the State Fire Marshal revealed what caused the fire at the Vine Grove fire station on Aug. 20.

In a post on social media , the Vine Grove Fire Department said the official report from the State Fire Marshal's office found a lightning strike caused the fire.

"We are currently working with our insurance companies and will hopefully have all things settled in the next few weeks," the department said.

Fire Chief Matt Haddle estimated the damage cost to be around about $1.5 million. He said a tanker truck, a F-350 pickup and a department Breast Cancer Awareness vehicle were also damaged.

Despite the destruction, Haddle said the other two Vine Grove stations can cover the area so that service will be unaffected. Other nearby fire departments have also offe
