MONTGOMERY, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Some potential good news for Alabama’s struggling rural healthcare system. Hundreds of millions of dollars could be coming from the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” according to State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris.

Harris met with state lawmakers this week during a budget hearing and said $500 million or more could be on the way as part of the Rural Health Transformation Grant.

Harris said they’ve been told the money is intended for several rural healthcare initiatives like recruiting and retaining healthcare professionals and enhancing technology and infrastructure in rural health facilities.
