Derry Township police charged a 46-year-old man with rape, sexual assault and incest after they say he sexually assaulted a younger family member who was visiting his home.

The assault occurred in the early morning hours June 10 at the man’s home in the 700 block of Bullfrog Valley Road, according to charging documents filed against Daniel M. Beachell.

Relatives had gathered that week for a family birthday celebration and some were staying at Beachell’s house, police said.

According to the affidavit of probable cause written by police:

Beachell texted a young woman just before 3 a.m. and asked if she was “home,” meaning at his residence, because she hadn’t yet said goodbye to him and her family was leaving in a few hours to travel back to their home.
