NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio — Here’s the twist in November’s Issue 8 that North Ridgeville city officials want voters to know: Even though it’s billed as an income tax increase, about 8 out of 10 North Ridgeville residents who pay income tax would end up paying less.
Although the proposal would raise the city’s income tax rate from 1% to 1.75% starting in 2026, the credit for residents who work outside the city – and are subject to double taxation – would increase tenfold if Issue 8 passes.
For North Ridgeville residents who commute, that means they’d stop paying nearly a full extra percentage point to North Ridgeville and instead only owe 0.75% — a 0.15% cut compared with today. City officials say that’s roughly 80% of the workforce.
The two groups that would pay more are much smaller. Peop
