ROCKFORD, MI— Thousands of fans packed Carlson-Munger Stadium Friday night, electrifying the atmosphere for the return of MHSAA high school football.
Rockford came out swinging, forcing a fumble by sacking Saline quarterback Tommy Carr on the Hornets’ opening drive. Moments later, Rockford senior quarterback Brayden Daniels rushed in for a touchdown, scoring the season’s first points.
Saline quickly answered, taking a 21-14 lead into halftime. Rockford controlled the third quarter scoring 14 unanswered points, including a blocked punt where senior Sam Cummings recovered and scored giving Rockford a 28-21 lead with 4:21 left in 3rd.
The fourth quarter was all Hornets behind their Miami-Ohio commit quarterback Carr. Carr scrambled and found teammate Lucas Fidh for the tying score with 6:2
