ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI -- Southbound U.S. 131 in northern Allegan has reopened after a semi-truck several damaged an overpass three days ago.

Michigan Department of Transportation staff said the freeway was open as of about 1:15 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29.

The truck struck the 146th Avenue overpass about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, damaging three beams.

MDOT spokesperson John Richard earlier said the bridge needed temporary repairs because of the damage, just to allow freeway traffic to pass safely underneath.

No traffic will be allowed on 146th Avenue over the freeway until a permanent fix happens.

The overpass has a clearance of 14-feet, 2 inches. The overheight truck reportedly scraped the bottoms of two other bridges on nearby M-6 before hitting the 146th Avenue bridge.
