MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A man was injured after a shooting Tuesday night near an East Memphis gas station, police said.

Memphis Police (MPD) said officers were called to a Valero near Highland Street and Park Avenue for a shooting victim. FOX13 arrived to find a car riddled with bullets parked at one of the gas pumps.

The man shot was rushed to Regional One Health and expected to be OK.

The man told investigators that he was driving on Prescott Street near Cherokee Boulevard when he heard gunfire. He pulled over to the gas station and realized he had been shot, police said.

He later told police that he didn't believe he was targeted in the shooting but "was caught in the crossfire."

"The shooter had something else going on," he told police. "I just happened to get hit."
